Breed information
Graptemys geographica - Dark flattened and elongated carapace with ridges along the centre and darker squiggly markings. Their heads and limbs are a dark green with yellow squiggly markings.
Found in Eastern and central United States and southern Canada. These turtles are easy to care for and will happily coexist with each other. Primarily carnivorous whilst young they become more herbivorous as they age. Their main diet whilst young should consist of aquatic insects, crustaceans, molluscs, fish, aquatic vegetation and or commercial turtle pellets. A large basking area should be provided because although these turtles are aquatic, much of their time is spent on the riverbanks basking in the sun. A basking lamp with a UVB bulb is essential for their long term welfare.
Maximum size: Male 15cm - Female 28cm
Lifespan: 20-30 years
Temperature: Water - 22-25 degrees Celsius, Basking area - 29-32 degrees Celsius
Tank requirements: Water filter, 50% water and 50% basking area, basking lamp.
Tank Mates: Will happily co-exist with other turtles of their kind.
Feeding: Mainly insect and fish derivatives which may be purchased as prepared turtle foods.
