Half-banded Pike Cichlid
Half-Banded Pike Cichlid 7-8cm
Breed Information
Crenicichla geayi - These fish have a cigar shaped silvery body with darker bands.
These fish have the reputation of being highly territorial and aggressive. They are an ambush predator, capable of snaffling fish only just smaller than themselves and so care should be taken when choosing tank mates. Each pike cichlid likes its own territory and loves a pipe or cave where they can lay in wait for unsuspecting prey. As long as they are paired with much larger fish that prefer to spend their time nearer the surface, they can be kept with other species with caution. If keeping with conspecifics (other pike cichlids) you will need a larger aquarium with plenty of hiding places and rocks to disrupt line of sight and allow each one their own territory.
