Doctor Fish (Garra Rufa)
Garra Rufa 3cm
Breed information
Garra Rufa - This fish is a bottom feeder and has a silvery slender body.
Prevalent in the middle east, these algae eaters are ideal for helping to keep your tank algae free as they are always moving and cover a lot of ground. These fish are known as doctor fish because of their use in therapeutic spas where they nibble the dead skin from swimmers and were popular in foot spas for a while. While peaceful, they can become aggressive towards each other and should be kept in groups of five or more to temper their aggression. They also like a well planted tank, referably with a high flow, well oxygenated and filtered.
